Live theatre is courageous, emotional and adventurous. Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati (ETC) brings the best plays to life right here in downtown Cincinnati. ETC is dedicated to the development and production of new plays and plays new to our region. New plays are a catalyst to sustain expressive, critical and timely dialogue.

Our work has brought positive national attention to Greater Cincinnati. Producing Artistic Director D. Lynn Meyers was named one of the YWCA Career Women of Achievement in 2001. Under her leadership, ETC has received many awards, as well:

  • Last season, ETC received national press (wire services) for The Exonerated and the involvement with The Ohio Innocence Project, the national project's founder Barry Scheck and celebrity and former Cincinnati mayor, Jerry Springer.
  • In 2003-2004, ETC received national press in the Wall Street Journal for Alice in Wonderland and Breath, Boom. CityBeat Newspaper recognized ETC for Best Diversity On-Stage, Best Mix of Art and Politics.
  • In 2002-2003, ETC presented the world premiere of James and Annie by Tony winning playwright Warren Leight, which received a rave review in Variety and was selected as one of the top six new plays by the National Theatre Critics Association.
  • 2001-2002 was another outstanding year. ETC presented Leight's Glimmer, Glimmer and Shine, a finalist for best new play by the National Theatre Critics Association. ETC enjoyed national press in the Wall Street Journal for Sleeping Beauty and received the Star Award for Outstanding Business from the Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce. ETC performed this holiday musical for 1,200 at-risk school children, many of whom have never experienced live theatre. Afterwards they were asked to describe or draw "What is beautiful to you?"
We are proud to bring this positive attention to Greater Cincinnati, and we need your financial help to keep young artists and emerging playwrights and new audiences assured that there is a place for contemplative and insightful creativity in theatre.
